Teemu Selanne speaks out on the Terry/Beagle incident.

As we reported earlier today the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has allowed veteran Arizona Coyotes forward Jay Beagle to go unpunished following a rather violent incident that occurred during a Friday night game between the aforementioned Coyotes and the Anaheim Ducks. The news came as somewhat of a surprise given that Terry appeared to suffer significant damage to his face as a result of the one sided beatdown from Beagle, but this isn't the first time nor will it be the last that the NHL's Department of Player Safety has left me scratching my head.

Although players currently playing in the league are much less likely to speak out in the event of controversial rulings, for obvious reasons, former players who are free of any potential constraints tend to be more than happy to share their thoughts when they don't like what they see. Over the weekend Anaheim Ducks legend Teemu Selanne took to his social media to express his displeasure at the incident, going so far as to suggest that the Ducks should consider bringing some enforcers into their lineup.

"Don’t like how these young Ducks stars get pushed around…" wrote Selanne via his Twitter. "we need a couple [Tie Domi's] here…now..joke is over…"

Selanne's comments came in response to the now infamous picture of the aftermath of the beatdown that shows the damage to Terry's face, and I suspect that he wasn't too pleased by what he saw.

The last part of Selanne's tweet was less clear however and seems to be open to interpretation. Was Selanne suggesting that he was joking about the need for enforcers on the team? Or was he perhaps calling the entire fiasco involving Terry a joke in and of itself? I think both are possible here and without asking the man himself I'll leave it up to you to decide which way he was leaning with his comments.

Given that the NHL has failed to respond to the incident, you can expect that the Ducks will look to do so the next time these two teams cross paths.
