A terrible update for Perfetti and his team on Sunday.

It is not looking good for National Hockey League forward Cole Perfetti or his team after a very concerning update on Sunday morning.

Perfetti, who suffered an injury after an awkward collision with Calgary Flames defenseman Kevin Bahl last week, was notably absent from the ice on Sunday when the rest of his Jets' teammates began warming up for practice. Since that time, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has indicated that Perfetti will indeed miss some time as a result of his injury and added that he expects an official update from the Jets in short order.

Update: The Jets have now provided an official update courtesy of head coach Scott Arniel and as expected the news is not good. Arniel confirmed to reporters that Perfetti suffered a sprained ankle at the time of the incident and will now be out for what sounds like a few weeks. Arniel has indicated that Perfetti will be out week to week, but did not provide a firmer timeline than that.

This will be a huge blow to the Jets even if Perfetti is only out for a relatively short time, especially when you consider that the Jets already have captain Adam Lowry as well as defenseman Dylan Samberg already sitting on the sidelines due to injuries of their own.

Perfetti is coming off the best season of his career, his first full 82 game NHL season, one in which he had 18 goals and 32 assists for a total of 50 points last season. He would already be the type of player that would prove very difficult to replace in the Jets lineup and that is only compounded by the fact that the Jets are already dealing with injuries at the forward position.
