The Montreal Canadiens have just shared some terrible news to kick off the weekend.

In an official announcement on Saturday morning, the Habs revealed that defenseman Kaiden Guhle would miss an extended period of time due to injury. The Habs confirmed that Guhle is currently dealing with a lower body injury that is expected to keep him out of action for the next four to six weeks.

That is a huge loss for the Canadiens on the blue line and one that will impact them through a significant portion of the regular season schedule, and unfortunately that wasn't the end of the bad news.

The Habs also revealed that two of their regular forwards are also currently dealing with lower body injuries of their own, with both Kirby Dach and Patrik Laine sidelined moving forward. The silver lining here is that things seem much less serious in the case of Dach and Laine, with both men listed as day to day by the organization.

The Canadiens will now have to face the New York Rangers later today with a significantly depleted lineup.

It's a tough break for Guhle who was receiving praise for his strong start to the season alongside Canadiens star defenseman Lane Hutson, and it will now leave a significant hole for the Canadiens to fill in the second pairing on their blue line.

The Canadiens did make a corresponding move on Saturday by calling up Owen Beck from the American Hockey League's Laval Rocket on an emergency recall, but that won't allow them to fill the void on the blue line given that Beck is a forward.

Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
