Terrible update on Oilers forward Evander Kane.
The Edmonton Oilers will be without the services of Evander Kane for a big chunk of the season.
The Edmonton Oilers are going to have to make due without one of their top forwards for a significant chunk of the upcoming National Hockey League season.
On Sunday morning, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Kane had finally gone under the knife earlier this week to repair the damage done to his body, but also provided new details when it comes to the timeline for his recovery. According to Friedman, Kane is going to be out of the lineup until at least January or February, which means that the Oilers will be forced to play a significant portion of their season without Kane's services.
Kane detailed a laundry list of injuries prior to undergoing the surgery including injuries to both abductors, a pair of hernias, and a pair of abdominal tears. That is a lot of damage to repair and as a result it comes as no surprise that he will have a significant recovery time following the injuries he has suffered and had surgically repaired.
Kane is coming off of what was a solid season with the Oilers in which he apperared in 77 regular season games, scoring 24 goals and adding 20 assists for a total of 44 points. His production dropped considerably in the playoffs however where it became clear that injuries had caught up to Kane and had greatly limited his ability to perform on the ice. Despite that Kane still managed 4 goals and 4 assists for a respectable 8 points over 20 playoff games.
Kane had previously let fans know that he had undergone a successful surgery, posting an update from his hospital bed via his Instagram. Unfortunately it appears that Kane was right about the long road ahead that he will have before he can fully recovery from his battery of injuries.
