The Minnesota Wild have just dropped some potentially devastating news.

Earlier this week, Wild general manager Bill Guerin informed reporters that veteran forward Mats Zuccarello would be sidelined for training camp, the preseason, and possibly even the start of the regular season. Guerin revealed that Zuccarello had tweaked something in recent weeks and that this was the motivating factor behind his absence.

Unfortunately the most recent update on the veteran forward now sounds even worse.

According to the latest from Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo, there is now a question of whether or not Zuccarello will need to go under the knife for corrective surgery. Russo reports that Zuccarello will meet with medical staff this coming Monday to determine whether or not his injury will require corrective surgery to repair.

Surgery would of course be a huge blow to the Wild who have relied heavily on Zuccarello in recent years. The 38 year old is coming off of a 69 game season in which he had 19 goals and 35 assists for a total of 54 points.

Unfortunately fans in Minnesota are no strangers to Zuccarello being sidelined by injuries, the veteran forward has never played a full season with the Wild and has only managed to play 70 or more games in a single season in just 2 of his 6 seasons with the team.

We won't know more until Zuccarello meets with doctors sometime tomorrow, so stay tuned more on this unfortunate and developing story in Minnesota.
