You never like to see a popular veteran player go down with injury, but that's unfortunately the case with Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Marc Staal.

During last night's victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Wells Fargo Center, Staal was seen getting tied up with Edmonton’s Warren Foegele in the corner. Staal was able to make his way to the bench but was in clear discomfort as he spoke with a team trainer, and eventually the news would be released that he'd suffered a rib injury and would not be able to play for the foreseeable future.

According to Anthony Di Marco on X (formerly Twitter), Staal will be out for at least the next four to six weeks.

It's an unfortunate setback for Staal, who is in his first year with the Flyers after having played last season with the Florida Panthers who were able to advance all the way to the Stanley Cup Final; it was Staal's second trip of his career to the Cup Final after having initially advanced nearly a decade prior with the New York Rangers in 2014.

In 1,105 career NHL games with the Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Panthers and Flyers, Staal has scored 52 goals with 177 assists. He's also added seven goals and 13 assists in 128 career playoff games.

Best wishes to Staal for a speedy recovery!
