Well, that's unfortunate.

The Minnesota Wild are going to be shorthanded to start the upcoming 2023-24 NHL season, and the player that's on the shelf just so happens to be their captain and one of their most important figures.

Captain Jared Spurgeon has been listed as "week to week" after he suffered an injury during last night's victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center in preseason action.

Spurgeon appeared to suffer the injury late in the first period after a collision with Blackhawks forward Reese Johnson; he left and did not return.

Last season in 79 games played, Spurgeon scored 11 goals and 23 assists and also boasted an impressive +32 plus/minus rating.
