The Canucks have chosen their new head coach!
THIS JUST IN: a new coach is coming to Vancouver.
The Vancouver Canucks have chosen their next coach. According to Darren Dreger, who cites different sources, Adam Foote will be named the new head coach of the Canucks.
Last month the Canucks announced that coach Rick Tocchet would not be re-joining the team for the 2025-26 season after two-and-a-half seasons with the club. Tocchet had lead the Canucks to the playoffs in his first full campaign at the helm in 2023-24, but the team failed to match those expectations this year.
The search began for his replacement.
Foote is a former Avalanche defender who was on staff with Tocchet since January of 2023. Before that, he coached in the WHL as the head coach for the Kelowna Rockets.
There was a belief that Manny Malhotra was the Canucks’ “slight favorite.” He has been an NHL assistant coach for both the Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs. But the choice appears to have landed on Foote, who also played a long career in the NHL, spending 19 seasons with the Quebec Nordiques, Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets.
In the meantime, it was reported that Tocchet will become the head coach of the Flyers in Philadelphia.
