For the second straight year Mark Giordano had his season cut short due to injury. However, Giordano is poised to begin the season with a new contract and more importantly, a clean bill of health.

The Calgary Flames captain signed a six-year, $40.5-million contract extension earlier this summer, and is back to his old self after a bicep tear that kept him off the ice down the stretch this past season.

"I started skating a bit toward the end of last year and shooting the puck a little bit," Giordano told Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald. "I got home, took a bit of rest, and got right into the strengthening phase of my recovery. I've felt great. Honestly, I'm 100 percent today.

"There's nothing in my mind that's physically going to hold me back."

In 61 games prior to the injury, Giordano had scored 11 goals and added 37 assists, and would have likely been a candidate for the Norris trophy had he stayed healthy.
