According to a report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Carolina Hurricanes have made a significant trade offer to the Winnipeg Jets for superstar goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

Seravalli reports that the offer included rookie defenseman Alexander Nikishin and a 1st round pick.

From Seravalli for Hockey 24/7:

Sources indicate the Carolina Hurricanes made a pitch this week for United States Olympic gold medalist and three-time Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck. The offer was believed to include a first-round pick along with pending RFA defenseman Alexander Nikishin, a player swirling in trade winds this week. Nikishin, 24, scored 11 goals in his freshman season as a blue liner and was selected to the All-Rookie team alongside Matthew Schaefer.

Look... Nikishin is a fine player. And a 1st round pick is a fine asset.

But, it's gonna take a lot more than that to get the best goalie in the world.

At least, that's the way things look from my perspective. If I were the Jets I would insist on Brandon Bussi being included in this deal, as well as at least one more future asset like a high draft pick or a top prospect.

Thoughts, Jets fans?
