The Vegas Golden Knights are taking heat around the league after another surprising update involving former head coach Bruce Cassidy.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the Edmonton Oilers had not been granted permission to speak with Cassidy regarding their head coaching opening. At the time, many around the hockey world blasted Vegas for what they viewed as a classless move.

Now things appear even messier.

According to insider Elliotte Friedman, the Los Angeles Kings are also still waiting for permission to interview Cassidy. Friedman clarified that Vegas technically has not outright denied teams access, but instead appears to be “dragging their feet” on the process.

As of late Tuesday night, neither the Oilers nor Kings had reportedly received approval to move forward.

The situation is drawing attention because the Golden Knights remain in the middle of their second-round playoff series, meaning any delay could significantly impact Edmonton’s ability to move quickly on a coaching replacement.

And now another major team could soon enter the picture. The Toronto Maple Leafs officially fired head coach Craig Berube on Wednesday morning, instantly creating one of the biggest coaching vacancies in hockey. Many are already wondering whether Toronto will also attempt to speak with Cassidy.

The growing perception around the league is that Vegas is making an already complicated coaching market even more difficult.

Whether it is strategy, pettiness, or simply organizational caution, one thing is clear: frustration toward the Golden Knights is rapidly growing as teams continue waiting for answers.
