The 21 year old Jacob Fowler was drafted 69th overall in 2023.
Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis announced today that 21 year old goaltender Jacob Fowler will make his first NHL start this evening against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
This news comes after Habs goaltenders Jakub Dobes and Sam Montembeault both got lit up for 3 goals apiece in a 6-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. They recalled Fowler from the AHL's Laval Rocket immediately after the game, so it's no surprise that he's finding his way into the net. The team has struggled in goal lately, so it makes sense to give the crease to Fowler at least for a game and enable the team to reset a bit.
The 21 year old Fowler has played 15 games for the Rocket so far this season and has a sparking 2.09 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. It remains to be seen what his short-term future and long-term future is with the team.
