Veteran NHL backup goaltender Andrew Hammond has agreed to a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the Florida Panthers.

Check it out:

The Hamburglar played just 11 NHL games last season split between the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils. In total he's played just 67 NHL games over the course of his 8 year career, but he'll always be remembered for his incredible run with the Ottawa Senators back in 2014-15. Who can forget Hammond going on an absolute HEATER of a run to end the season posting a 20–1–2 record and leading the Sens to an improbable Stanley Cup Playoffs berth. It was during that run that Hammond earned his "Hamburglar" after a fan threw a McDonald's hamburger on the ice following his 10th consecutive victory. Hammond leaned into the nickname and has featured the Hamburglar mascot on his masks ever since.

Hammond will have a tough time getting playing time with the Panthers, however. With Sergei Bobrovsky and Spencer Knight both firmly holding on to the 1A/1B roles in Florida, I see Hammond more as a depth minor league option that who the team can lean on should an injury occur.
