Young gun torched the AHL over the last two seasons.
The Hockey News journalist Ryan Kennedy answered some fans questions on Friday and had very interesting things to say about Detroit Red Wings young gun Teemu Pulkinen.
"I’m pretty excited about Pulkkinen this season. The Detroit Red Wings left winger has already gotten his feet wet in the NHL with 31 games last year (and three the year before), while at the same time showing that he can dominate in the AHL. In fact, his year-over-year progression with Grand Rapids was incredible. Though he only put up eight points with the Wings, I can see him taking the next step this season, especially since Pavel Datsyuk will miss the start of the year due to ankle surgery.
So Pulkkinen, who has excellent offensive skills, a great shot and has rounded out his game since being drafted in 2010, will have a great chance at a top-six role early on. If he seizes it, expect his numbers to go way up", wrote Kennedy.
The 23-year-old Finnish could very well be the next in line of mid to late round draft pick whom the Wings developed in the AHL and then succeeded at the highest level. Pulkkinen recorded 61 points in only 46 games with the Grand Rapid Griffons in the AHL before being called up by the Wings. In 31 games, He scored five goals and added three assists.
