Look, I'm a bit of a hockey traditionalist.

That means I hate a lot of the NHL's newfangled ideas like chrome dome helmets and live animated ads on the side-boards. I just like hockey, pure and simple. So, when the Carolina Hurricanes started holding their 'Storm Surge' post-game celebrations at PNC Arena, I wasn't a fan. Frankly, like legendary CBC broadcaster Don Cherry, I felt the Hurricanes were acting like a 'buncha jerks.'

It was a classless look for what I felt was a classless team.

Now though... the 'Canes may have converted me.

I'm a sucker for when NHL teams hold their annual Mom's Trip or Dad's Trip. It tugs at the heart strings and always gives us a fun look in at the players' soft side.

Well, tonight the Hurricanes sold me on the Storm Surge by inviting their mothers on to the ice to lead the charge.

Check it out:

How can you look at those smiles and not love this?

C'mon, Grapes!
