The Islanders have found their new GM!
THIS JUST IN : someone new takes over in New York after Lou Lamoriello’s departure. Full info down below:
About a month ago, it was reported that Lou Lamoriello will not return to the New York Islanders as president and general manager. When the Isles’ season came to an end, it was confirmed that the 82-year-old’s contract would not be renewed.
The quest for his replacement immediately began and earlier this week, it was down to two candidates: Marc Bergevin and Mathieu Darche, who each got a second interview for the position.
On Friday, it was reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman that Darche is the one getting the job and will be announced as the Islanders’ new GM shortly.
Darche has served as director of hockey operations for the Tampa Bay Lightning for the past six seasons and as assistant general manager of the club for the past three.
Hours later, the Islanders made it official: "The New York Islanders today named Mathieu Darche General Manager and Executive Vice President. Darche will manage all aspects of the team’s hockey operations."
