The Red Wings have been without Drew Miller since he suffered a terrible injury earlier this month, but we are starting to see some signs of progress.

For the first time since his injury Miller returned to the ice with his teammates on Tuesday, wearing a specialized face shield to protect his recently repair jaw.

“I tried it out yesterday and then back out today a little longer, 20 minutes,” Miller said as per NHL.com. “It was nice to get on the ice.”

Miller was injured on what many considered to be a questionable hit, but after the fact Miller says he was the one who should shoulder most of the blame for his injury.

“I saw the replay. It was a big hit but I put most of it on myself,” Miller said. “I put myself in a tough position. I thought he would take the fake and go down the wall and try to hit me and he came back the other way and hit me and I came back the other way and he was still there, so it’s the game of hockey and it happened and now I’m just concentrating on getting healthy and moving on.”

Miller says that while he's excited to get back into game shape his focus right now is making sure that he's fully recovered.

"After surgery you got to take some time and let it heal, let that bone settle in, can’t do too much to jar it around so the plates move around the bone doesn’t heal well,” he said. “Last two weeks haven’t really done anything, some light bike here and there. Mostly letting it heal.”

No word yet on when we can expect him to return, but if he's skating prior to the holiday break it's certainly a good sign.
