By now, you’ve heard that the Toronto Maple Leafs have themselves a new general manager in the form of Brad Treliving, replacing Kyle Dubas.
Based on comments that he made during his introductory press conference, it sounds as though the “Core 4” of John Tavares, William Nylander, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner are all going to be staying put, at least for now.
For Nylander, he has the chance to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. What are the chances that Nylander agrees to a long term deal?
Based on comments made by NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs would indeed like to keep him, but that the two sides are not close on a new contract.
Nylander has one more season remaining on his contract that carries an annual average value of $6,962,366. In 521 career NHL games, all with the Leafs, he's scored 177 goals (including a career high 40 this season) and 253 assists for 430 career points.
