The New York Islanders Have Named A New Captain.

The New York Islanders have quickly named a new captain.

After losing long time captain Anders Lee earlier this summer when he signed a new contract with the Utah Mammoth, the Islanders have now officially named Bo Horvat as the new captain of their franchise.

You would be hard pressed to argue with this choice, not only is Horvat among the most respected players in the entire National Hockey League, he will now become one of the rare few to have captained multiple different teams in the NHL.

Horvat served as captain of the Vancouver Canucks starting in October 2019 and was a well respected figure within the franchise and within the Canucks fan base right up until he was traded by the Canucks to the New York Islanders in January of 2023.

It is a trade that many in Vancouver do not look back upon favorably, especially considering the fact that Horvat has averaged over 30 goals a season in each of his full 3 seasons with the Islanders. This past season Horvat was limited to just 68 games but in spite of that he still put up 31 goals and added 26 assists for 57 points on the season.

A great choice by the Islanders and one that I don't expect we will hear many objections about.
