The NHL's 10 highest paid players (Salary & Endorsements)

For the past eight years the National Hockey League's highest earning player has been the man many view as the modern face of the league, Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby. However when Forbes released it's annual top ten list of the NHL's highest earners this week there was a new number one who had dethroned Crosby.

The Forbes report has named Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has the NHL's new king of bling thanks both in part to his massive $13.8 million salary this season, as well as a very healthy $2.2 million in endorsement deals which include brands like Canadian Tire, Bauer, Hallmark and more. That's good for a whopping $16 million and that's per year.

Crosby isn't too far behind, and the reason he drops to number two this season is largely due to the fact that his contract was heavily front-loaded. Crosby will pull in considerably less salary then Toews at $10.9 million, however his endorsement deals with companies like Adidas, CCM, Gatorade, Tim Horton’s, Verizon and Upper Deck have him pulling in a massive $4.5 million per year. That's good for a one-year earnings of $15.4 million for Sidney Crosby.

Here are the eight remaining players in the top 10:
