The NHL's top 10 worst goalies (so far) this season.

The 10 goalies who have struggled the most.

There's no question that goaltending is an incredibly important factor when it comes to having a successful team in the National Hockey League but unfortunately there simply aren't 32 world class level goaltenders at any given time to ensure that everyone in the league has an equal playing field.

As a result you often see drastic disparities in the NHL in terms of goaltending and this season has been no exception with several of the league's worst teams also struggling between the pipes. Recently the analytics staff over at Money Puck put together the most up to date data we have on goalies this season and today we'll be looking at the 10 worst goalies in the NHL this season.

To be clear this isn't an objective evaluation of who is better or worse, and instead we will be using goals save above expected to determine who is having the worst season in the NHL. The goalies with the lowest goals save above expected will of course be at the top of the list.

Here is the list:
1. Elvis Merzlikins (CBJ) -23.3
2. Kaapo Kahkonen (SJS) -19.8
3. Spencer Martin(VAN) -13.8
4. Petr Mrazek (CHI) -13.6
5John Gibson (ANA) -12.5
6. Jack Campbell (EDM) -11.8
7. Jonathan Quick (LAK) -11.8
8. Thatcher Demko (VAN) -11.2
9. Alex Nedeljkovic (DET) -11.1
10. Cal Petersen (LAK) -9.3

Notable is of course the fact that the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings have two goaltenders that appear on this considering the drastic difference between the two teams in the standings.

Goaltending isn't everything, but this list would appear to suggest that it is of massive importance.
