UPDATE: NHL insider Frank Seravalli has confirmed Gaffar and is reporting that the return for Arvidsson is a 5th round pick.

Read below for our earlier report on this trade, published as events occurred.

According to a report from NHL insider Irfaan Gaffar, the Edmonton Oilers have traded forward Viktor Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins.

No word yet on the return, but it's probably safe to assume that this is a salary dump by the Oilers.

In moving Arvidsson the Oilers free up $4 million off their salary cap for next season, assuming they don't retain any of his contract in the deal.

Stay tuned for official confirmation of the deal.
