The Philadelphia Flyers “forced” to make a move?

Teams don't always make a move because they're either buyer or seller, sometimes they have to make a move to get under the salary cap regulation. Could this be the case for the Philadelphia Flyers with Mark Streit coming back in the lineup?

"It could be unless they come up with some other creative measures to get somebody else on injury reserve." said Bob McKenzie " Mark Streit is a veteran defenceman in the final year of a contract of $5.250.000 cap hit. He's ready to come off injured reserve this weekend and would like to get back in the lineup with the Philadelphia Flyers but because they're a cap crunch team right now, they can't put him back in the lineup unless they free up some dollars somewhere else. So people are waiting to see if a trade is in order."

According to Pierre Lebrun, the New-Jersey Devils could be a good trading partner for the Flyers as they got plenty of cap space and draft picks. Again, according to Lebrun "The Devils want to use both their cap space and their draft picks as a measure to improve their team."

While there's a huge market for top-4 defenceman in the league, there's a lot less dancing partner for a 3rd pairing D with a $5.250.000 cap hit. If the Flyers can't trade one of their assets, they will have to send down one of their player. There's only 3 players in the Flyers organization who are waivers-exempt: Ivan Provorov (he's not going anywhere), Travis Konecny (would be sent back to Junior and quite frankly, shouldn't be sent down.) and Roman Lyubimov (an healthy scratch last game)
