The Connor Hellebuyck saga may not be over just yet.

On Saturday night, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman shared some new details about what led to Hellebuyck being suspended by his own team and, perhaps more importantly, hinted at the possibility that the National Hockey League Players Association may not be done with this situation just yet.

Friedman began by revealing what exactly caused Hellebuyck to be suspended for such a lengthy period of time to start the regular season.

"He was suspended by the team for 18 days, there was a reason for that number," said Friedman on Saturday Night Hockey. "From the time he did not show up at training camp until he said he wanted to report to the team it was 18 days. The NHL gave the Jets permission to suspended him for the exact same amount of time he was absent [from the team] without permission."

That lengthy suspension proved to be extremely costly for Hellebuyck with the goaltender forfeiting nearly $1 million in salary over the length of his suspension and it sounds like the Players Association may try and help Hellebuyck get some of that money back.

"What we're waiting to see is, is Hellebuyck and the Players Association going to grieve that to try and get his money back?" asked Friedman. "We'll see, he has until early December to make a decision."

If Hellebuyck does try and contest the suspension I believe he will have another fight on his hands. Given how things ended between Hellebuyck and the Jets I can't imagine they're interested in paying him for sitting out during his suspension.
