The Sabres ready to make more moves despite very active offseason

This might be the season to take the Buffalo Sabres seriously. That’s because their new general manager Kevyn Adams has done some serious business this offseason, adding star forward Taylor Hall in October, signing free agent forwards Cody Eakin and Tobias Rieder and defenseman Matt Irwin, and acquiring veteran centre Eric Staal from the Minnesota Wild in late-September.

And it sounds like there might be more moves coming to Buffalo. Speaking with the media in a Zoom conference call on Tuesday, Adams revealed that more roster moves could be coming his way as he refuses to close the door to any possibility despite a busy offseason.

“I feel that you never want to say you’re exactly where you want to be, because you always want to get better, so we’re leaving ourselves the opportunity if there’s a way to improve our roster. But for the most part, what you see right now as we head into training camp is close to where it will be when we come out of it.”

There is no doubt that the Sabres have put together a much stronger roster than we’ve ever seen in the past seasons. Adams feels so positive about his work - and more potential trades if needed - that he believes his captain Jack Eichel is more readier than ever to get into the postseason and make the Sabres a great contender. 

“I feel like this off-season, Jack and I had time to spend to get to know each other. We’ve done that,” Adams said. 

“I made it clear to Jack right in the beginning that I want to build a relationship with him. I want to get to know him, I want him to get to know me. And I want this to be a situation where we all help each other. We all want the same thing.”

Let’s see how the Sabres will manage in the realigned East Division this season and if they’ll be able to clinch a playoff spot.
