The 2018 World Juniors player is done
After years of trying to trade forward Alex Formenton in the wake of his involvement of the 2018 World Juniors controversey, the Ottawa Senators are walking away.
Senators insider Bruce Garrioch confirmed today that indeed Formenton is headed for free agency on July 1st.
The Ottawa Senators have cut ties with Alex Formenton and he’s free to find work in the National Hockey League.
League sources told the Ottawa Citizen on Thursday that the Senators removed the 26-year-old winger from their free agent list last month, which has allowed him to become an unrestricted free agent.
The sources say the Senators filed the paperwork with the league’s Central Registry office on May 8, the same day the club signed Stephen Halliday to a two-year contract extension.
It'll be interesting to see if Formenton warrants any interest on the free agent market, either from NHL or AHL clubs this upcoming offseason.
