Last week, the Calgary Flames announced that forward Jakob Pelletier would undergo surgery following an injury to his left shoulder in an exhibition game against the Seattle Kraken. On Wednesday, there was an update provided on Pelletier’s status after he underwent surgery this week. The team did not give an official timeline for his return, but said it will be “a few months.”

This is a tough blow that’s being confirmed as fans feared the worst when the young forward was awkwardly hit into the boards by Kraken forward Marian Studenic. The latter was given a boarding major and a game misconduct for the hit as Pelletier laid on the ice in pain before skating straight to the Flames’ dressing room with a trainer.

There was so much hope for Pelletier going into the 2023-24 season under new head coach Ryan Huska, who’s replaced a controversial Darryl Sutter behind the bench. Pelletier, who had his share of altercations with Sutter, was believed to be extremely motivated for the upcoming campaign.

Pelletier was selected by the Flames in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft and made his NHL debut last year, putting up three goals and adding four assists in 24 games.

Fans will now need to be patient with his recovery and return to the ice.
