The Kings confirmed on Thursday that Alex Turcotte, the No. 5 pick of the 2019 draft and has played in only eight games with Los Angeles, will not attend the team’s rookie camp. On top of that, his status for next week’s main training camp remain unclear due to lingering concussion-related issues, per Eric Stephens of The Athletic.
The poor guy has been through a lot. While he played only eight games with the Kings in 2021-22, he spent most of the season with the AHL’s Ontario Reign.
However, he suffered a concussion when he was on the receiving end of a hard hit by the Colorado Eagles’ Andreas Englund during the postseason. He was then forced to miss the on-ice sessions of the Kings’ development camp in July.
This is the hit in question, which Englund was suspended for.
It was noted that Turcotte is “doing good” though the Kings had to confirmed he would not participate in Rookie Faceoff tournament in San Jose.
“I think he’s been through a lot in the past. We also want to take our time. When the doctor says he’s ready to go, then he is. But we just have to be a little bit patient.”
Marco Sturm, Head coach of the Ontario Reign
Since the concussion back in May, Turcotte missed two months of action. His status remains uncertain for the Kings’ official training camp.
We wish him all the best.
