Theo Fleury goes off the deep end, calls for facist regime in Canada

I used to adore Theo, but he's in the middle of a major online spiral these days... kinda sad actually.

Former NHL star Theo Fleury has had a busy life post-retirement. But, if you've not kept up with him in recent years, consider yourself lucky.

When he retired from professional hockey after failing to make the Calgary Flames' training camp roster back in 2009, Fleury became an outspoken spokesperson for mental health awareness and sexual abuse sufferers. Of course, Fleury himself has been the victim of sexual abuse, being at the center of a huge scandal involving now disgraced former junior hockey coach Graham James. Fleury's memoir "Playing with Fire" was a best seller and it vaulted him from washed up former hockey star to personal and political activist.

Somewhere along the way though, Fleury lost his sense of purpose... he's now a prominent member of social media's hate-filled, ill-informed echo chamber. He's your typical right-wing conspiracy nut, to be perfectly blunt. Q-Anon, anti-vax, anti-Trudeau... you name it. If there's a whacky idea out there, chances are Fleury has some sort of twists opinion for it.

The thing is, while Fleury has shown support for several politically far-right movements, that's not an issue to me. You can hold political opinions that I may not agree with and I can have respect for you, but to my knowledge Fleury hasn't shown support for outright fascism in Canada. Until now...

Commenting yesterday on Justin Trudeau and his inability to properly address concerns that China has interfered in Canadian elections, Fleury has called for his nation to ditch democracy and embrace fascism. Think I'm twisting his words?

Buddy... take a seat, you clown.

Or better yet, take a seat in a Civics 101 class to learn about basic political structure. Democracy leads to communism? What does that even mean? You'd rather we live in a totalitarian fascist government where your oil baron buddies get to make up the rules? Actually... don't answer that, I think I can predict your response...

Look, I'm no Trudeau fan either. He's pretty clearly a shill for corporate and foreign interests. He was bought and sold long ago and now he's selling out the entire country. Call me crazy, maybe we replace him with... another elected leader? What a concept, eh? I'm a fan of democracy and I think any Canadian, especially one with a platform as large as Fleury's, who calls for our democracy to be scrapped is a dangerous individual capable of causing irreparable damage to our country.

Let me be clear... this isn't me defending Trudeau, it's me taking issue with Fleury and his asinine ignorance. Just more blatant hate and ignorance spewing from Fleury's mouth once again... what else is new these days?
