We’ve known for years that Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin plans to end his career in Russia. However now, it is his KHL team that has admitted they are already planning for his return.

Moscow Dynamo general manager Anatoly Kharchuk gave clues to what plans are in motion and how they impatiently await the return of Ovechkin during an interview with the Match TV channel, (translated from Russian):

“So we’re preparing it right now. Dynamo now has that age potential, which will peak at the moment when Sasha’s NHL contract expires. I want him to have decent partners at that moment.”

Ovechkin is still under contract with the Capitals until 2025-26. He will already be 41 years old at the end of his deal in the NHL, but there is a strong feeling that he will still have plenty left in the tank to play for his home club.

Last night against the Chicago and, Ovi recorded his 41st goal of the season, the 821st of his career, meaning he now trails Wayne Gretzky by 73 in the goals race.

If he remains healthy, he could break the record in the next seasons and therefore choose to head back home to Russia as soon as he can.

After all, Dynamo has already everything in place to welcome him back.
