When it comes to Sidney Crosby’s future, there have been some many trade rumours recently, it’s hard to keep up. For months now, especially with his Penguins missing out on the postseason for the past two straight years and them starting what looks like a full rebuild, Crosby has come up in trade chatter, shipping him out of Pittsburgh. Though Crosby has extended his contract to 2027 and many fans and pundits do no expect him to leave the Penguins, trade rumours have linked him to the Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens and just recently the Los Angeles Kings. However on Thursday, a recent revelation by teammate Kris Letang showed how there’s much more to Crosby, and it might explain why a trade out of Pittsburgh is almost unthinkable.

Letang shared that Crosby picks up his son Alex from school every day and walks home with him. It’s a small gesture, but it speaks volumes about Crosby’s priorities and his connection to his teammates and their families.

This loyalty off the ice mirrors his commitment on it. Over nearly two decades with the Penguins, Crosby has guided the franchise to three Stanley Cups, mentored countless younger players, and become synonymous with Pittsburgh hockey. Even as the team enters a rebuild, there’s no hint he’s considering leaving.

Crosby is not just invested in winning championships, he’s invested in the city, the dressing room, and everyone close to the organization.

The Penguins may face challenging years ahead, but having Crosby in the fold gives them stability, leadership, and continuity. And while other stars in the league weigh their options each offseason, Crosby’s decisions seem rooted in more than contracts and statistics. Reports out of Pittsburgh have recently indicated that Crosby is fed up by the ongoing trade rumours and that he signed up for the Penguins’ plan. His loyalty to the team has been mentioned every single time a trade rumour has come up.

And it’s not just about the team. It’s about the teammates, the close friendship and the younger generation like Letang’s son Alex, who probably feels more like a nephew to a guy like Sid.

Just heart-warming classy stuff from the Penguins’ captain.
