It has been confirmed that the sexual assault case of five players from Canada’s 2018 world junior hockey team is set to be before a London, Ont., court on Monday.

Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart and Michael McLeod are each charged with one count of sexual assault. The latter, a forward for the New Jersey Devils, is also facing an additional charge of sexual assault for “being a party to the offence.” The accused players have all been allowed to go on indefinite leave from their respective clubs.

This is in relation to a woman, identified only as E.M., who sued Hockey Canada in 2022, alleging she was sexually assaulted by eight members of Canada’s world junior team after a fundraising gala in London in 2018.

That’s the thing : eight members were allegedly involved in the assault, which makes many reporters believe that three more players will be identified in the incident.

According to Martin Leclerc of Radio Canada, this is only a matter of time. This is what he pointed out in his editorial, translated from French to English, here below:

“In the lawsuit she filed in the spring of 2022, the alleged victim targeted Hockey Canada, all three Canadian major junior leagues and eight players who had only been identified by the pseudonyms John Doe and their year of birth. Were the three unaccused players spared for lack of evidence or lack of direct participation? Did they try to intervene to stop the alleged attack? If they were indeed present, will some of them be called to testify, by the defense or the prosecutors, to explain what they witness?”

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman also recently noted how other players from that junior roster, some of whom are currently playing in the NHL, could be called to the stand as important witnesses in this case.

Players allegedly involved and charged in this incident have made some statements about their innocence. More will be revealed during Monday’s press conference by the London police and what is expected to come next.

It is impossible that the names of the three other players will be revealed then.
