Three time All-Star rumored to be on the trading block.

It's rare to see a player of this stature traded, even at this late stage of his career.

According to a report from CSN Bay Area there is serious consideration being put on the possibility of trading three time All-Star Patrick Marleau, arguably the franchises greatest player, ever.

If the Sharks are to make a big move, it will almost certainly involve Patrick Marleau. The 36-year-old forward’s agent has reportedly been exploring options for Marleau, who earlier in the season was willing to accept a trade to either the Kings, Ducks or Rangers.

Marleau has spent his nearly 20 year NHL career as a member of the Sharks, but it sounds like he's ready to move as well, likely in the hopes of competing for a shot at a championship, something that has eluded him throughout his illustrious career. Despite being 26 years of age, relatively old for a hockey player, Marleau continues to produce with 32 points in 50 contests this season, and his veteran presence could be an additional benefit to a team looking to add him.

According to the CSN report the Rangers appear to be the most interested among the aforementioned teams, although no one knows if Marleau has expanded his list at this time so any number of teams could potentially be involved.

New York, in particular, has been scouting the Sharks frequently in recent weeks.

One thing is certain, Marleau would be a huge addition to a playoff contender in need of offense, and he comes with an additional year of control left on his contract.
