There's a lot to cover today, mainly because the moves that were made in the NHL today have given us some more insight on what we can expect from the rest of the league over the coming weeks. First the salary cap: It's become quite evident that at the very least Montreal Canadians general manager Marc Bergevin believes that the rumors about a stagnant cap next season are true. He has made two moves over the last several days, both of which have traded away contract years. It appears he is preparing himself for what he believes to be an eventually. It will be interesting to watch how other GMs react over the coming days, especially those in the Eastern Conference reacting to Bergevin strengthening his team on defense. Second the San Jose Sharks: It's being widely reported that the San Jose Sharks are going to use this home stretch to determine where exactly their franchise stands. San Jose will play 11 of their next 13 games at home, if they struggle we can expect a lot of moves. Pierre Lebrun of TSN's Insider Hockey has stated he expects a fire sale in San Jose if things don't change quickly, we could see names like Tyler Kennedy and Anrti Niemi on different teams sooner rather than later. Third Todd McLellan: The San Jose Sharks head coach is allegedly on the trading block according to Bob McKenzie, and his future is also likely going to be determined by the success of the Sharks during the very same stretch of games at home. McKenzie stated that he also believes multiple teams are interested in acquiring McLellan, and that if fired he would likely be hired somewhere else before the end of the season. Fourth the Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins had been looking to acquire a top 6 forward, although they weren't willing to give up their young prospects to do so. Bob McKenzie is reporting that this had changed drastically since the loss of Pascal Dupuis. The Penguins will likely revist the talks they had surrounding the possibilites of Chris Stewart and Drew Stafford but this time around McKenzie believes that Harrington, Pouliot, Dumoulin and Samuelsson will be names the Penguins are more willing to part with. That's your Thursday rumor round up! If you have heard anything we haven't mentioned, leave us a comment, or if there's any trades you'd like to see made, discuss them in the comments below!
