Senators forward Tim Stützle did not hold back on his latest interview with 32 Thoughts the Podcast, especially when asked about former teammate Alex DeBrincat’s controversial departure from Ottawa.

Earlier this summer, DeBrincat was traded to his hometown Detroit Red wings after just one short season with the Senators, who had worked hard last summer at acquiring the star forward.

When commenting to Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman about DeBrincat’s trade, Stützle went guns out and fired shots at his former teammate.

“If he doesn’t want to be there, I don’t want to make him have to be there,” Stützle said of DeBrincat. “You know, like, that’s fine to us. I think the whole group, we’ve been saying it, we want him to stay. We want him to be part of this group and he’s a great guy, great player.

“If you don’t want to be there, then good luck on your way.”

Stützle is committed to the Senators and so are forwards Brady Tkachuk and Claude Giroux, as well as defensemen Thomas Chabot, Jake Sanderson and Jakob Chychrun, who all signed through the 2024-25 season.

“I think you can just tell those guys who signed long-term, they really want to be here. And yeah, that’s the biggest part for us.”

Fans expect both the Senators and Red Wings to bounce back this upcoming season, but with these comments, more than anything, fans cannot wait for the two teams to meet on the ice. Their first game takes place on October 21st.
