Washington Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson is having himself one hell of a season and it now sounds like it has paid off in arguably the biggest way possible.

Canada's Olympic Men's Hockey team is going to have some incredibly difficult decisions to make in the coming weeks as they finalize their roster for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Italy, but Wilson may have made one of those decisions easier than expected.

National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun has revealed that Team Canada is expected to slot Wilson onto their roster, making room for the gritty Capitals forward by removing Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny from the roster. From LeBrun:

And who do you take out from the 4 Nations roster? I think Team Canada will likely swap in Wilson for Travis Konecny.

Just looking at the raw numbers this season it's not hard to see why Team Canada has gone in this direction. Not only is Wilson a much more imposing figure on the ice than Konecny, but he has also outshined Konency this season when it comes to offensive production. Wilson has been on a torrid pace with 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points in just 29 regular season games, while Konency on the other hand has produced just 6 goals and 16 assists for 22 points in 26 games by comparison.

Team Canada will meet for a 3 day meeting beginning on Sunday and no doubt we will see more decisions of this nature being made as the final pieces are put into place ahead of the Olympic Games.

These types of decisions are controversial at the best of times but with Wilson involved I suspect there will be plenty of debate regarding whether or not Team Canada is making the right choice here.

Let me know what you think of this swap in the comments.
