Tom Wilson calls out the Habs for “playing cheap” after 1st round playoff victory
The Caps took the series in 5 games, but Wilson's still salty.
The Washington Capitals officially ended the Montreal Canadiens' season last night with a 4-1 victory in Game 5 to close out the series by a score of 4 games to 1.
Afterwards, the two sides put their differences aside and took part in the tradition of the post-series handshake. Fiery competitors Tom Wilson and Josh Anderson even seemed to embrace each other, after fighting on the Capitals' bench earlier in the series:
Flash forward to post-game interviews though and Wilson had some choice words for his competitors, calling them out for "cheap play".
"We knew that they were gonna play kind of cheap and try and get us off our game," Wilson said. "So it got crazy at times. But that's why hockey's so fun, and that's why we all love the sport and we love playing and love competing."
Wilson followed up that backhanded compliment with a proper compliment just moments later, however.
"Huge respect to that hockey team over there, starting with Carrier, obviously. He takes a big hit and he's right back out there battling. I think hockey players are tough, and they made it really hard on us."
I think it's fair to say that Wilson earned himself a few new enemies as a result of this series... just the way he likes it.
