Tomas Jurco has been dealt in strange player for player deal.

A very odd trade.

This is a bit of a weird one.

According to an official announcement from the Carolina Hurricanes organization the Hurricanes have just acquired veteran forward Tomas Jurco from the Florida Panthers. What makes this trade so bizzare are the other components of this deal, most notably the fact that Jurco himself has only been traded to the Hurricanes in exchange for "future considerations." Now that and of itself is not so unusual but it gets even weirder from here.

According to that very same report from the Carolina Hurricanes the have also traded forward Cliff Pu to the Florida Panthers, in what I guess is a different trade than the one I just reported, and additionally that Pu himself has also been dealt for what is being labeled as "future considerations."

Now if you were to ask me to describe this deal I would simply label it as a team acquiring a veteran player that can help them in their push for the postseason in exchange for a prospect that has still not demonstrated he can deliver at the National Hockey League level. That would of course be a player for player trade but it does not appear to be what this deal is and these about to be two separate minor deals.

Quickly, the big takeaway from these trades for me is the fact that the Hurricanes have given up on Pu rather quickly just a few short months after acquiring him in the trade that sent goal scorer Jeff Skinner to the Buffalo Sabres.
