The controversial defenseman finds a home in the NHL once again.
This just in, the New York Islanders have re-signed free agent defenseman Tony DeAngelo to a one year contract worth $1.175 million.
The 29 year old blueliner split last season between the Islanders and the KHL's SKA St. Petersburg. The Islanders are his 6th NHL team in the lat six seasons. It's no secret that DeAngelo is a divisive player both amongst fans and amongst his teammates. He was famously run out of the New York Rangers' organization after an altercation with then-teammate Alexandar Georgiev. He was reportedly kicked off his team in the KHL last season because he refused to play the team's system and was only out for personal glory.
With star blueliner Noah Dobson now out of the Islanders' system, it'll be interesting to see how the team utilizes DeAngelo moving forward. No one is denying the fact that DeAngelo has skill, it's all the baggage that comes with him that makes him a tough pill to swallow sometimes.
