Tony DeAngelo throws his stick and leaves Flyers practice in frustration

“He's either gonna play tonight or be out for the next 6 weeks,” says head coach John Tortorella.

I don't think that many Philadelphia Flyers fans would describe their team as "interesting" this season, but things sure did get interesting at Flyers practice this morning.

Accordingly to multiple online reports, Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo left his team's practice this morning in a bit of a huff. It's not clear exactly why DeAngelo left practice, but he has been dealing with a minor injury and head coach John Tortorella did mention to the media earlier today that DeAngelo is questionable for tonight's game against the New York Islanders.

Check it out:

Yikes... things are going off the rails QUICKLY in Philly.

The team has lost 10 games in a row, Torts is down their throats and now they're best offensive defenseman is out of the lineup... potentially long-term. This is a team with no identity and no direction, which I don't think you could ever say about a Tortorella team before, save for perhaps that one strange season when he coached the Vancouver Canucks. Philly fans... what the HELL is going on with this team?!

I see a team with a good mix of veterans and youth, but for whatever reason they just can't seem to put together consistent efforts. Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny are both having good seasons, but beyond that there's just no production from this team. DeAngelo has been mediocre, ditto for Ivan Provorov and the rest of the backend. Carter Hart has actually taken a bit of a step forward, but there's little support behind him with 25 year old Felix Sandstrom playing back up duty. Again... I just can't figure this team out. What are players like Scott Laughton, Morgan Frost and Owen Tippett bringing to the table?

It's been a frustrating season in Philly and, unfortunately, I don't see that changing anytime soon. The best thing that Flyers fans can hope for at this point is to hopefully finish toward the bottom of the league's standings so that they can secure themselves a top five pick in what many are predicting will be an absolutely stacked class at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
