He turned down the Oilers but that may have been a big mistake.

A contract offer that was put on the table by the Edmonton Oilers during the opening of free agency this summer may be coming back to haunt the National Hockey League's top free agent.

Recently, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun revealed at least one of the reasons that free agent forward Jack Roslovic remains unsigned in spite of the fact that he scored 22 goals last season. According to LeBrun, Roslovic rejected at least one offer that was extended his way this summer when he turned down a contract from the Edmonton Oilers.

"We believe that he actually had something on the table this summer from the Edmonton Oilers and it didn't interest him," revealed LeBrun.

Roslovic has since fired his agent and hired a new one which would indicate how he feels about still being a free agent this late into training camps. LeBrun expressed his disbelief at the fact that Roslovic would reject the offer given his circumstances.

"Imagine turning down a chance to go play with [Connor] McDavid or [Leon] Draisaitl but whatever," said LeBrun with a laugh.

As I mentioned Roslovic put up 22 goals with the Carolina Hurricanes last season and added an additional 17 assists for a total of 39 points in 81 games and it remains very surprising that he has yet to sign a new deal. Whether or not that is primarily due to a lack of interest or simply Roslovic and his agent overestimating his value on the open market however now seems clear in light of LeBrun's recent comments.

The only question now is will his decision not to sign in Edmonton come back to haunt him this season?
