The Detroit Red Wings selected Jackson, Mich. native 70th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He grew up watching the Red Wings and even penned an essay as a youngster in school stating that his life goal was to one day suit up in the NHL wearing the Winged Wheel.
Mazur also played in his youth for the Little Caesars AAA hockey team, and also practiced at both Joe Louis Arena and the Belfor Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena, Detroit's practice rink.
He's getting the chance to show what he's capable of in the 2023 Red Wings prospects tournament in Traverse City, but during yesterday's matchup against the prospects from the Dallas Stars, Mazur suffered an injury that kept him out of the second half of the game.
“Obviously that’s a big loss," teammate and 2023 1st round draft pick Nate Danielson said afterward. "He’s a great player for us. It was tough to see him go down early, as well as Elmer (Soderblom) going out there for a little bit.”
Soderblom, who initially made the Red Wings out of last year's training camp and also scored the first goal of the season in the home opener in October against the Montreal Canadiens, was also hurt during the game but was able to return.
