You may remember how earlier this summer, there were rumours of a trade between the Philadelphia Flyers and the St. Louis Blues in which defenseman Torey Krug was involved. The transaction however felt apart when the veteran blue liner reportedly threw a wrench into the mix, refusing to waive his no-trade clause to be moved to Philadelphia.

On Wednesday, Krug explained to Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic why he blocked the transaction that would have sent him to Philly.

“I chose to stay here. I want to be a part of this room and love playing for this city and wearing the Blue Note, so it’s something I’m very excited about. Obviously, you don’t like hearing things like that. I have kids, I have a family and a lot of things to think about, but at the end of the day, I want to be here and wear the Note.”

Moving Krug wouldn’t come easy anyway. He has contract at an average annual value of $6.5 million until 2026-27 with the aforementioned no-trade clause, which limits the Blues’ moves. And now Krug sounds more adamant than ever that he wants to stay put in St. Louis.

“We have a great locker room. I feel like if you go around and take a poll around the room, I hope I’m a big part of this room. I enjoy working and being a part of it. We had a pretty crappy year last year. When you don’t win, anything’s up for grabs and anything goes. That’s the business part of hockey. If you want to be a part of the solution, you put your foot down and you try to do your job.”

If the Blues aren’t in contention closer to the trade deadline, they could approach Krug with another try at moving him. They could have to retain a portion of Krug’s cap hit to make a trade happen, however, it will be something on our radar as the season gets underway.

However, will Krug’s mind change by that time?
