This just in, the Ottawa Senators have signed free agent forward Zack MacEwen to a three year contract worth $775,000 per season.

The 26 year old tough guy split his season between the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings this past year, scoring 10 points and adding 66 penalty minutes in 56 games. He put up 110 penalty minutes for the Flyers in 2021-22 and has emerged as one of the toughest guys in the NHL the past few seasons. He stands at 6'3", 205 pounds and has proven that he's not afraid to take on anyone... as evidenced by this tilt with Zdeno Chara a couple years ago:

More from the Senators' official press release announcement:

The Ottawa Senators announced today that they have signed forward, Zack MacEwen to a three-year deal.

The Senators have added another piece to their forward core, signing forward, Zack MacEwen to a three-year deal with an AAV of $775,000.

MacEwen is a five year veteran of the league, having spent time with Vancouver, Philadelphia and most recently the LA Kings. In 186 NHL games, he has scored 13 goals and added 15 assists for 28 career points. Last season was a career best for him setting career highs in goals (4) and points (10) while tying his career high in assists (6).

Across his six professional seasons between the NHL and AHL, MacEwen has built a reputation for being a physical player with great character. He should be a quality role player for the next few seasons for the Senators and should add to their physicality.

MacEwen's addtion gives the Senators a reliable replacement for Austin Watson in their bottom six forwards; a high energy player that grinds every night and stands up for teammates. With his signing we're beginning to flesh out what the Senators bottom six forward core will look like next season.

Expect MacEwen to work his way in and out of the bottom six of the Senators' lineup this upcoming season, depending on just how much beef they need on a given evening.
