Trade: 3 players + pick moved in deal between Golden Knights and Devils.
The Golden Knights and New Jersey Devils have made a trade involving 3 players and a draft pick.
The New Jersey Devils and the Vegas Golden Knights have struck a deal. There will be 3 players and a pick on the move in this deal, with the deal now being officially confirmed on the draft floor.
National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the details of this trade, with goaltender Akira Schmid and forward Alexander Holtz on their way to Vegas in exchange for forward Paul Cotter and a third round pick in 2025 going back the other way to New Jersey.
This represents the Devils completely giving up on Alexander Holtz as a prospect, a player that they selected in the first round (7th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Holtz appeared in 82 games for the Devils this season and had 16 goals and 12 assists for a total of 28 points on the season, finishing the campaign with a plus minus rating of -15.
A bad sign for Holtz to be sure considering his draft pedigree, but it will be an opportunity to get a fresh start somewhere else.
Cotter is the most notable part of the package going back to New Jersey, with the 24 year old having 138 games of NHL experience under his belt. The majority of that comes from this past season with the Golden Knights where Cotter appeared in 76 games, scoring 7 goals and adding 18 assists for a total of 25 points last season.
