TRADE ALERT: Minor trade between the LA Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Now to be fair, they're not trading Drew Doughty for Patrick Kane. Lower your expectations.

TRADE ALERT: Minor trade between the LA Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Keystone Press

A minor trade occured yesterday between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Los Angeles Kings. Such a small deal got under the radar of almost everybody but James Mirtle.

The Chicago Blackhawks traded away the left-handed defenceman Cam Schilling (7-10--17 in 40 games with the Rockford Icehogs in the AHL) for right-handed centerman Michael Latta (2-4--6 in 29 games with the Ontario Reign.)

Latta already played 113 games in the NHL, Schilling only played 6, both with the Washington Capitals.

While this may seem like hole-filling for their development team, don't be surprised if Michael Latta end up in Chicago after the deadline. The Blackhawks made it clear they wanted to add a forward for a Stanley Cup push and Latta is carrying a mere $600,000 cap hit. He's a reliable defensive centerman who's good in the faceoff dot. For 7-8 minutes a game, he won't hurt you, while you can add more firepower with the money you saved.
