Trade brewing between Bruins and Hawks?

The Chicago Blackhawks are looking for solutions on their back end ever since they lost Brent Seabrook and Calvin de Haan for the remainder of the season.

Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now has revealed that an NHL scout claims the Hawks have been scouting the Boston Bruins. Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman was spotted taking in some recent Bruins games, as well as those of the Buffalo Sabres, which makes sense seeing that both teams have some talented blue liners to spare.

Murphy believes the Bruins could be tempted to make move with the Blackhawks as partner as it is believed that winger Brandon Saad could be available.

It is well known that the Sabres have more defensemen to spare than the Bruins, with Rasmus Ristolainen, Zach Bogosian and Marco Scandella readily on the market,  but Boston could be willing to part with one blue liner in return for Saad.

If a trade gets done, the Bruins would have to part with a salaried player to make room for Saad’s $6 million salary-cap hit. According to Cap Friendly, the Bruins have less than $1 million in salary-cap space and would be forced to shed salary to acquire Saad in a return for help on the back end in Chicago.

We will keep an eye on this…
