Will this high asking price blow up a rumored trade between the Canucks and Canadiens?
A trade may be brewing between the Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks, that is if the Canadiens can stomach the Canucks high asking price.
Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal recently revealed that the Canadiens have more than just a passing interest in acquiring veteran Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood, with Dhaliwal also revealing that the Canucks have recently been scouting the Canadiens. Dhaliwal revealed on a recent episode of Donni and Dhali that the Canucks scouts were recently in attendance during a Canadiens game and even speculated on who they may have been looking at.
"Canucks scouted the Montreal/Ottawa game, could they be trying to get a young player like Zac Bolduc?" asked Dhaliwal.
Bolduc would be a huge asking price for the Canadiens to give up and, to be perfectly blunt, I simply don't see Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes making a move of this nature. Bolduc was drafted in the first round (17th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens and has already shown himself to be a 20 goal scorer-type of player with 19 goals in just 72 games last season as a member of the St. Louis Blues.
Sherwood is a significantly older player at 30 years of age compared to just 22 years of age for Bolduc and I just don't see a world in which Hughes would give up Bolduc for what would be a rental player on an expiring contract in Sherwood.
That being said it is clear that both sides do have interest here with the Canucks being spotted scouting the Canadiens this week, so only time will tell if a trade materializes between these two Canadiens teams.
