The 2022-23 is weeks away, but there is still a lot of work taking place behind the scene in Vancouver. According to insider Iain MacIntyre, the Canucks reportedly have defenseman Ethan Bear on their radar as they look to bolster their back end before the start of the new campaign.

This summer, the 25-year-old blue liner inked a one-year contract worth $2.2 million with the Carolina Hurricanes and he is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights next summer.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman also reported the Canucks’ interest in Bear on Monday morning appearance on Donnie and Dhali – The Team:

“I do think the Canucks are interested in Bear,” said Friedman.

Friedman was also reporting that Vancouver could be looking to trade for defenseman Nils Lundkvist, though he was later moved from the New York Rangers to the Dallas Stars.

“Basically what I heard with Bear is they’re definitely interested, but I’m not sure that there’s a deal to be made there.”

Friedman wonders how Bear could be worked under the Canucks’ cap. He tallied five goals and nine assists through 58 games with the Hurricanes last season.

Let’s keep an eye on this one.
