There is a sense that we will finally get a decision from Patrick Kane on whether he will accept to be traded from the Chicago Blackhawks ahead of the trade deadline on March 3rd.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed how one element will play into his decision as the insider reports in his latest 32 Thoughts column that a trade pitch was made to Kane on Tuesday. The Edmonton Oilers have place a trade offer in for the Blackhawks’ veteran forward.

“I do think they’ve made a pitch for Patrick Kane, but it’s up to the winger to decide. We’re all wondering if that’s the best use of their assets, and what I’m guessing is they want the option to have a strong second line if they play Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl together. Kane/Nugent-Hopkins/Kane could work.”

However, Friedman is quick to remind GM Ken Holland that he must be careful with being shorthanded due to injury. Reports have been getting louder that Kane is dealing with a hip injury and teams have expressed a real concern about it.

There is no hint on whether Kane would be interested in joining the Oilers as he still wonders if the New York Rangers remain an option, despite acquiring Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues earlier this month.

But Kane also must consider what else is available and he might just do that with the Oilers’ trade pitch recently made to him.

Let’s keep a close eye on this.
